The essay aims to show the influence of that great institutional-engineering moment, that goes by the name of American Revolution, on a little Italian pre-unitarian state, the dukedom of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla, which have always been excluded from the studies concerning International history issues. What I discovered shows how much deeply interested this state was in what happening in the American British colonies, and how not obvious this fact is for what concern the preparation and the fertilization of the intellectual soil for those patriots, (particularly active in northern Italy), who will lead to the Italian revolution, that is the Risorgimento.

Il saggio vuole dimostrare come un'operazione letteraria, quale una traduzione in lingua veneziana dell'Iliade di Omero, abbia potuto essere strumento di circolazione di idee politiche di più ampio raggio. In particolare è possibile identificare, nell'opera, l'eco del dibattito politico internazionale relativo all'emancipazione delle colonie britanniche in America settentrionale dalla koiné imperiale. Nello specifico, Casanova osserva tali eventi rivoluzionari alla luce del contrasto politico interno alla Repubblica di Venezia relativo al rinnovamento della Costituzione della Serenissima.

This book aims at filling, at least in part, the historiographical void concerning the community of Guastalla and the territory of the low plains of Reggio during the late Middle Ages. Much has been written about Guastalla in the 16th century, after the purchase of the community by Ferrante Gonzaga; little, however, on the 15th century, the age of the Torelli's dinasty. In particular, the attention of historians has almost always been directed to the history of the lordships that have held Guastalla over the centuries, devoting little attention to its society. Through the study of the interaction between man and the environment, the kinships, institutions and the economy of Guastalla between 1400 and 1539, the volume aims to highlight the transformations that preceded and allowed the development known by Guastalla and the neighboring communities after the end of the Italian Wars. In fact, the protagonists of this story were all the communities of the territory corresponding to the current low province of Reggio Emilia, in particular Novellara, Brescello, Gualtieri and Boretto, each characterized by different institutional structures but sharing the same needs of subsistence and development. Moreover, this book wishes to place itself in the debate on the history of minor centers in the Italian Middle Ages, adding a piece to the research on the role played by them in the process of formation of the Italian regional states of the Renaissance. ---------------


Questo libro nasce dalla necessità di colmare, almeno in parte, il vuoto storiografico riguardante la comunità di Guastalla e il territorio della bassa pianura reggiana nel tardo medioevo. Molto è stato scritto su Guastalla nel ‘500, dopo l’acquisto della comunità per opera di Ferrante Gonzaga; poco, invece, sul ‘400, l’età dei Torelli. In particolare l’attenzione degli storici è stata quasi sempre rivolta alla storia delle signorie che hanno tenuto Guastalla nei secoli, dedicando scarsa attenzione alla sua società. Attraverso lo studio dell’interazione uomo-ambiente, delle parentele, delle istituzioni e dell’economia guastallese tra il 1400 e il 1539, il volume ha lo scopo di evidenziare le trasformazioni che precedettero e permisero lo sviluppo conosciuto da Guastalla e dalle comunità confinanti dopo la fine delle Guerre d’Italia. Protagoniste di questa storia, infatti, furono tutte le comunità del territorio corrispondente all’attuale bassa provincia di Reggio Emilia, in particolare Novellara, Brescello, Gualtieri e Boretto, caratterizzate ciascuna da diverse strutture istituzionali ma accomunate dalle stesse esigenze di sussistenza e sviluppo. Questo libro, inoltre, desidera collocarsi nel dibattito sulla storia dei centri minori nel medioevo italiano, aggiungendo un tassello alla ricerca sul ruolo svolto da questi nel processo di formazione degli stati regionali del Rinascimento.

This paper inquires the links and the mutual influence between the political and educational structures of the rural community of Novellara during the 16th century. The analysis will focus in particular on the evolution of these structures from the late medieval humanistic school system to the new post-Tridentine catholic school system. This dynamic will also be taken into account under the perspective of the political strategies undertaken by the ruling family of this community, a cadet branch of the Gonzaga family, in order to allow the survival of their little state. The only way to achieve this purpose was to put the fathers of the Society of Jesus in charge of the local schools.

mariées, restées momentanément seules,
constituent une figure littéraire récurrente.
C'est justement à la condition et au
quotidien de ces femmes, confrontées à
l’absence temporaire de leur époux, que le
colloque « Femmes face à l’absence de
l’Antiquité à l'époque contemporaine : terre,
mer, outre-mer(Europe-Amérique du Nord) »
propose de réfléchir. Alors que le veuvage—
conséquence de l’absence irréversible des
hommes—et le célibat ont fait l’objet de
nombreux travaux historiques, la solitude
des femmes en situation conjugale,
momentanément « affranchies » de la tutelle
masculine, reste largement un territoire en
friche.
La trentaine d'interventions prévue pour ce
colloque permettra de mieux appréhender
les contextes d'avancées et de reculs au
regard de la situation des femmes, perçue
dans la longue durée. Un cadre
géographique large, l'Europe et l'Amérique
du Nord, favorisera les comparaisons et
mettra en valeur des situations plus
spécifiques et des trajectoires individuelles.
