About
Pedro Reis taught biology in basic and secondary schools before moving to the Superior School of Education at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, where he was: a) Head of the Sciences and Mathematics Department; b) Professor of Science Education; and c) initial and in-service trainer of science teachers. He was also Vice-Dean of this Polytechnic Institute with five Faculties.
At the present, he works as professor (Sub-Director) at the Institute of Education (University of Lisbon). He works as invited professor at the International University of Andalucia (Spain) and at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Brazil). He has published and been involved in research about: a) science education in different contexts; b) teaching the nature of science and assessing its understanding; c) professional development of science teachers; d) the discussion of socioscientific issues in science education; and e) ICT integration in science education. He supervises Ph.D. and master students in these fields. He has been involved in research, teacher training and curriculum development projects in Portugal, other European countries (supported by the European Commission), Africa (supported by the World Bank and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation) and Brazil (supported by the Portuguese and the Brazilian Governments). He is a member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Science Education and six other peer-reviewed journals in Portugal, Spain and Brazil.
